Penguin Parade

The Penguin Parade attracts more than half-a-million visitors every year to see the world’s smallest wild penguins. The Penguin Complex is a concrete amphitheater that can hold up to 3,800 spectators who goes to see the little fellas waddle from the sea to their land-based nests just after sunset. The goal of this project is to create a system of identification signage for visitors during the Penguin Parade.

Since the little penguins arrive just shortly after sunset every night, the chosen colour palette reflects the colours from different stages of sunset. Circles and half-circles are used throughout the design to resemble the sun. The outer shape of this series of icons is a drop-pin that identifies the current location and provides information to the visitors. All of the various shapes work together to create this identification signage system.
